We pulled in to our first ever RV park, Horn Rapids RV Resort and reserved our space for 30 days, as this gives us time to work out the bugs with the Little House and to have plenty of time to hug and kiss our brand new grand baby, Ryker. We chose to spend some time in Richland so that we could get to know this little fellow before we head out to the four winds.
Richland, Washington is a good place for us to stay for a while because we are familiar with the city,(it is only about 60 miles from where we lived when we had a house,) and if we have problems, with our rig or with adjusting to our new lifestyle, we will at least be in familiar surroundings and have family nearby.
Horn Rapids RV Resort is a really nice place to hang out. Since we are in a winter month, it is only about half full of year rounders, so we have the amenities to ourselves most times. That means, the hot tub spa, and the spacious showers and laundry facilities. It is spotlessly clean and is excellent repair: everything looks new and tidy! Since our Little house is only a 22 footer, we enjoy doing much of our "living" in the common areas of this resort. We recommend Horn Rapids as a great place to stay, especially for beginners like us.
We have been here for a couple of weeks now and are thoroughly enjoying our stay. Today we are in the West Richland Public Library and are using their internet service and soaking up all the good books and pleasant atmosphere. We are enjoying our new retirement status and especially the new-found time freedom. It is really nice to wake up when we want to, eat if we feel like it and read, knit, nap, walk, as we see fit! We still have a few loose ends to tie up, a couple of items on Craigslist that need new homes, and a motorcycle that needs a new rider. Other than that, we are fancy free. Total time freedom is so close that we can taste it!
We have learned a few things regarding our RV life that we didn't know until we had a little hands-on experience. Since the RV is our home now, I want to make sure it is clean and odor free. Well, we had a few odors that we couldn't identify, and therefore, didn't know how to deal with. So we called on some professional help from Doug, the come-to-you RV maintenance guy. He used to work on submarines in the navy so we felt he was well qualified to give us some tips. Through the process of elimination, we found that we had an easy solution...turn off the pilot light in the oven. Happily, the chemicals in the black, and gray tanks were working well, the fresh tank was indeed FRESH as a daisy, the dirty laundry was too recent to be smelly and there were no detectable cooking odors. Lance and my person were equally clean and odor free, so all in all, we were doing a good job of living in a tiny space. The upshot is that we are odor free! There is a fine line between living a good life in a small RV, and being trailer trashy. Our goal is to be neat and tidy, efficient, make a small footprint, and have happy days!
Soon, in about 2 weeks, we will move the Little House in a southerly direction. We have weathered our last snowy, windy and cold winter! We think Arizona is in the near future: maybe a day or three in southern Utah and Nevada respectively sounds good. Can't wait for sunshine and to roll out our awning and set up the lawn chairs. Winter RVing is not very fun...
